Welcome to La Coccinelle
French Daycare and Preschool
La Coccinelle is a French-language daycare offering a preschool program, located in Surrey (British Columbia) within Gabrielle-Roy School. Operating independently from Gabrielle-Roy School, it is a safe and caring environment focused on the well-being and individual needs of each child.
A non-profit Francophone organization founded in 1993, La Coccinelle welcomes children aged 30 months to 5 years. Our program, offered entirely in French, can accommodate up to 24 children per day.
Open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., from September to June, our daycare provides a stimulating environment that encourages discovery, learning, and the flourishing of the French language.
Our Mission
At La Coccinelle, we aim to offer much more than childcare services: we create a warm, inclusive, and safe living environment for children and their families.
We strongly believe that every child is unique. That is why we value differences and adapt our educational practices to each child’s learning style and pace, to support their overall development and self-confidence.
French is passed on with enthusiasm and kindness, in a positive atmosphere that respects each child’s abilities and individual needs. On a daily basis, we foster a strong sense of belonging to the French language and Francophone culture from early childhood.
Enrollment Eligibility
Before proceeding with registration, parents must complete a declaration confirming their eligibility according to Francophone criteria.
To be eligible, parents must meet at least one of the criteria established by the Francophone School Board:

French is the first language learned and still understood by one of the parents

One parent received primary education in French in Canada or abroad (excluding immersion programs)

A child in the family has received or is receiving primary or secondary education in French in Canada (excluding immersion)
Our Philosophy
We believe children learn best when they feel safe, respected, and free to explore. Each child is competent, curious, and capable of building their own learning.
Our program is play-based and inspired by British Columbia’s Early Learning Framework. Through meaningful everyday experiences, we support children’s social, emotional, physical, creative, and cognitive development.
We provide a calm and caring environment that promotes a sense of belonging, self-confidence, and respect for each child’s individual pace.
Our Educational Approach
Our pedagogy is play-based and guided by children’s interests. Educators observe, listen, and support children so that learning naturally emerges through exploration and discovery.
Through a balance of free play, guided activities, and intentional interactions, children develop autonomy, creativity, social skills, and problem-solving abilities. Educators enrich learning by asking questions, offering a variety of materials, and valuing children’s ideas.

Our team is made up of qualified, caring, and passionate early childhood educators. They build trusting relationships with children and their families, helping to create a welcoming and secure environment.
